Gov. Edwards’ Climate Initiatives Task Force begins working on state climate change plan
In the coming years, Louisiana is expected to lose coastal wetlands from sea level rise, see an increase in flooding from heavy rainfall events and more extreme heat all due to rising global temperatures.
Fletcher students participate in Queen Bess Island Restoration Project
Seven students from Fletcher Technical Community College recently participated in a restoration project on Queen Bess Island, along with instructors Jacqueline Richard and John Myers. They worked on the island alongside the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program; the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (they restored the island through dredged materials); and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The event was the first major volunteer effort of Restore or Retreat.
